QNX RTOS Centre of Excellence Inaugurated at PCU to Advance Industry–Ready Learning

Pimpri Chinchwad University (PCU), in collaboration with Pi–Square Technologies and BlackBerry QNX, inaugurated the QNX RTOS Centre of Excellence, marking a significant step towards strengthening industry–academia collaboration and preparing students for careers in embedded systems, real–time operating systems (RTOS), intelligent mobility, and software–defined technologies.

The programme was organized under the patronage of Dr. Santosh S. Sonawane, Vice Chancellor, PCU. The event was convened by Dr. Vijay N. Patil, Dean, School of Engineering & Technology, and coordinated by Dr. Neeru Malik.

The inauguration featured expert sessions by Mr. Veer Kumar Beede, Director – Engineering Services, BlackBerry QNX, and Mr. Dasharatha M., Program Director – QNX Everywhere & General Manager – iSET, Pi–Square Technologies, who shared valuable insights into the rapidly evolving world of embedded software, real–time operating systems, and next–generation automotive technologies.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Santosh S. Sonawane emphasized that in today's technology–driven world, academic qualifications must be complemented with industry–relevant skills and practical exposure. He encouraged students to leverage the Centre of Excellence to gain hands–on experience with globally recognized QNX technologies and prepare themselves for emerging opportunities in intelligent mobility, robotics, industrial automation, and software–defined systems.

During the technical sessions, Mr. Veer Kumar Beede introduced students to the architecture and applications of the QNX Real–Time Operating System, highlighting its critical role in safety–certified systems used across automotive, medical, industrial, and embedded technology sectors. He emphasized the growing need for engineers who can think beyond coding and develop system–level problem–solving skills.

Mr. Dasharatha M. discussed the evolution of embedded technologies and the increasing importance of software in modern vehicles, industrial automation, smart cities, robotics, and defence systems. He encouraged students to embrace innovation, understand industry trends, and develop multidisciplinary competencies required for the future of engineering.

The programme also included a comprehensive orientation on embedded systems, QNX RTOS, and industry–standard development tools, providing students with insights into global technology practices and career opportunities in safety–critical software development.

The establishment of the QNX RTOS Centre of Excellence reinforces PCU's commitment to experiential learning and industry integration by providing students with access to advanced technologies, expert mentorship, practical training, internships, and collaborative research opportunities. The initiative is expected to play a vital role in nurturing future–ready engineers equipped to meet the evolving demands of the global technology landscape.
