Pimpri Chinchwad University Hosts TSSC CEO Under Samsung Innovation Campus Initiative

Pune, 28 January 2026: PCET ‘s Pimpri Chinchwad University (PCU) marked a significant milestone in its industry-academia engagement by hosting Lt. Gen. Kulbhushan H. Gawas (Retd.), CEO - Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC), under the Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC) initiative. The visit aimed to review the implementation of the SIC program at PCU, interact with students, and explore long-term collaboration opportunities in emerging technologies.

The distinguished delegation included Ms. Arshiya Walikar, Program Manager - Pune (TSSC), Mr. Balasaheb Zarekar and Mr. Hussain Haijte, Directors - USDC Technologies Pvt. Ltd. The delegation was received by PCU ‘s leadership comprising Dr. Santosh Sonawane, Hon. Vice Chancellor; Dr. Sudeep Thepade, Pro Vice Chancellor; Dr. Abhijeet Banubakode, Director - School of Engineering & Technology; Dr. Swati Shirke-Deshmukh, Head - CSE (AI & ML); and Dr. Rahul G. Sonkamble, SIC SPOC at PCU.

The visit commenced with a strategic meeting at the University Board Room, where in-depth discussions were held on strengthening collaboration between PCU and TSSC, establishing a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in emerging technologies, and expanding industry-driven training programs. Dr. Santosh Sonawane reaffirmed PCU‘s strong commitment to delivering industry-aligned education and nurturing future-ready professionals.

During the meeting, Mr. Hussain Haijte presented an overview of the Samsung Innovation Campus initiative, outlining its national objectives and measurable student impact. Dr. Rahul G. Sonkamble showcased a detailed report on SIC implementation at PCU, highlighting student participation, structured training delivery, attendance, learning outcomes, and overall achievements of the program.

Following the meeting, the delegation interacted with over 200 students from the Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Coding & Programming (C&P) tracks at the University Auditorium. Addressing the students, Lt. Gen. Gawas emphasized the importance of skill-based learning, the growing relevance of AI and emerging technologies, and the role of programs like SIC in bridging the gap between academics and industry. He encouraged students to remain disciplined, consistent, and focused on industry readiness.

The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, reflecting the strong impact of the SIC program at PCU. A guided campus tour followed, during which the dignitaries appreciated the university‘s infrastructure, academic ecosystem, and student-centric initiatives.

Expressing satisfaction with the execution of the SIC program, Lt. Gen. Gawas commended PCU‘s structured approach and proactive engagement. The visit concluded with mutual interest in expanding collaborations, including the establishment of specialized training centers and advanced industry-led programs.

The successful visit reaffirmed Pimpri Chinchwad University‘s vision of emerging as a leading hub for industry-driven education, innovation, and skill development, aligned with national and global workforce requirements.
