The School of Media & Communication at Pimpri Chinchwad University recently hosted an engaging interactive workshop with filmmaker Suraj Madhale, whose work has been recognized in the Indian independent cinema space. Suraj, known for his nuanced storytelling and fresh cinematic voice, guided our students through the intricate relationship between cinema, society, and culture.
In his session, Suraj emphasized how cinema does not exist in isolation — it is a reflection of socio-cultural narratives, lived experiences, and the evolving identity of communities. He urged students to look beyond the screen and explore how stories are rooted in cultural realities, everyday struggles, and societal aspirations.
Through insightful examples, he demonstrated how cinema becomes a mirror to society while also shaping its future discourse. For students of BBA Media & Communication and B.Sc. Animation, VFX & Multimedia Sciences, this workshop was an invaluable opportunity to understand how to weave depth, meaning, and responsibility into their creative work.
