Overview

The School of Sciences, in collaboration with IAPEN and Jehangir Hospital, successfully conducted a Structured Medical Nutrition Training session on Malnutrition Screening and Assessment. The session was graced by the presence of Ms. Richa Shukla, Head of Dietetics at Jehangir Hospital and Honorary Secretary of IAPEN India, Pune Chapter, as the esteemed guest speaker. The event was meticulously organized by the dedicated students of the Raahat Diet and Wellness Clinic, showcasing their commitment to raising awareness and imparting practical knowledge in the field of clinical nutrition.The program commenced with a warm welcome address by Prof. Ruchu Kuthiala, who highlighted the purpose and benefits of such specialized workshops in enhancing student competencies and bridging the gap between academic knowledge and practical application. Ms. Richa Shukla delivered a comprehensive and insightful session on malnutrition, emphasizing its definition, causes, and the dire need for proper screening and assessment in clinical practice. She presented alarming statistics on malnutrition and discussed various evidence-based tools used for assessment, including: • MUST (Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool) • MNI (Malnutrition Screening Index) • GLIM (Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition) Participants gained valuable insights into best practices and protocols for assessing nutritional status and identifying individuals at risk of malnutrition. The interactive nature of the session encouraged student engagement and clarified several clinical concepts. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Amruta Desai, who expressed gratitude to Ms. Richa Shukla, the organizing team, and all participants for making the workshop a meaningful learning experience.This training session underscored the importance of structured approaches to malnutrition screening and highlighted the pivotal role of clinical nutritionists in improving health outcomes.
