How do students from other countries get into Indian universities?

International students can enrol in various levels of educational courses at Indian universities in a variety of ways. Direct admission, student exchange programmes, and merit-based scholarships are all options for them. However, the process of enrolling in an Indian college or university varies depending on the country of origin of the international student. For example, the procedures for enrolling in an Indian college or university for an African student and those for a Nepali student can be vastly different, owing to pre-existing political and economic constraints on both ends. Nonetheless, continue reading to learn how international students can easily enrol in successful graduate, postgraduate, and diploma programmes at Indian colleges and universities.

The Basics of Visa Requirements

Every country has its own set of parameters and criteria for issuing visas (student or work) to immigrants. In India, this process varies depending on the country. However, the basics are that each student visa provided to international students is a multiple-entry visa, allowing such students to return home for holidays and rejoin the next semester.

A letter of approval from the respective Indian college or university where they have been accepted to study is required for international students’ visa applications to be accepted. This student visa is only valid for the number of years of study in India specified. International students, on the other hand, are granted a provisional visa for a period of three months during which they can apply for admission to various universities in India. Finally, international students must provide proof of financial status in order for their student visas to be accepted.

Registration Process and Eligibility for Indian Universities:

To be eligible to begin their admission process in an Indian university/college, international students must have completed 12 years of schooling. This begins with submitting their 10+2 mark sheet (only for students who attended Indian schools) to the Student Cell of the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.

Following that, international students must approach private universities in India for admission, as there is no direct admission facility for international students at government-run universities. Nonetheless, students of African, Latin American, and Asian descent are eligible for certain quotas in medical-related courses.

International students, on the other hand, are not required to take the same entrance exams as Indian students when applying to private colleges and universities in India.

Finally, international students who wish to pursue postgraduate studies at an Indian university must have a valid graduation degree equivalent to a typical 3 to 4 year graduation degree in India.
