Homage to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj with a Book Exhibition and Grand Procession

Pimpri, February 2025 – Pimpri Chinchwad University (PCU) commemorated the birth anniversary of the legendary Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj with a deeply meaningful celebration, blending intellectual homage with vibrant cultural expression. The university hosted a unique exhibition showcasing a vast collection of books dedicated to the life, legacy, and strategic brilliance of the Maratha warrior king, followed by a grand procession that resonated with the spirit of his enduring leadership.

In a departure from conventional celebrations, PCU chose to honor Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj through the power of knowledge. The book exhibition, meticulously curated, featured historical accounts, biographies, and scholarly works that illuminated the multifaceted personality of the king. This initiative aimed to provide students and the community with an opportunity to delve deeper into the historical context, military strategies, and administrative acumen that defined Shivaji Maharaj's reign.

"Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's life is a testament to courage, resilience, and visionary leadership," stated Dr. Manimala Puri, Vice Chancellor of PCU. "Reading about his extraordinary journey is not just an academic exercise; it is an essential step in understanding the values that shaped our nation. By immersing ourselves in the narratives of his life, we gain invaluable insights into the principles of justice, governance, and unwavering dedication to the people."

Dr. Puri emphasized the importance of instilling a love for reading and historical exploration among the youth. "In an age of fleeting digital information, books remain a powerful source of wisdom and inspiration. We believe that this exhibition will ignite a passion for learning and encourage students to draw inspiration from the exemplary life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj."

Following the book exhibition, PCU organized a grand procession that echoed the grandeur and spirit of the Maratha era. Students, faculty, and members of the local community participated in the procession, which featured traditional music, dance performances, and tableaux depicting significant moments from Shivaji Maharaj's life. The procession served as a vibrant tribute to the king's legacy and a reminder of his enduring impact on Maharashtra and India.

Dr. Sudeep Thepade, Pro-Vice Chancellor of PCU, underscored the relevance of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's teachings in contemporary times. "Shivaji Maharaj's leadership was rooted in his ability to connect with the people, understand their needs, and empower them to rise above challenges," Dr. Thepade remarked. "His emphasis on strategic planning, effective administration, and unwavering commitment to his ideals offers invaluable lessons for students and future leaders. By studying his journey, students can learn the importance of integrity, perseverance, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances."

Dr. Thepade elaborated on how students can directly apply the lessons of the king. "Shivaji Maharaj was a master strategist, a visionary administrator, and a people's king. Students can learn from his focus on practical skills, his ability to build strong teams, and his commitment to social justice. His ability to innovate and adapt is more relevant now than ever."

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti celebration at PCU was a resounding success, fostering a sense of pride and historical awareness among the participants. The university's initiative to combine intellectual engagement with cultural celebration exemplified its commitment to holistic education and the preservation of national heritage. PCU remains dedicated to nurturing future generations who embody the values and ideals of great leaders like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
