April 9th, 2024: PCET's Pimpri Chinchwad University (PCU) ushered in the auspicious festival of Gudi Padwa with a heart-warming celebration at the student hostel on April 9th, 2024. Held under the guidance and blessings of Shri Harshvardhan Patil (Chancellor, PCU), Dr. Girish Desai (Executive Director, PCET), Dr. Manimala Puri (Vice Chancellor I/c, PCU), Dr. Sudeep Thepade (Pro Vice Chancellor, PCU), and trustees - Shri. Dnyaneshwar P. Landge (Chairman, PCET), Smt. Padma M. Bhosale (Vice-Chairperson, PCET), Shri. Shantaram D. Garade (Treasurer, PCET), and Shri. Vitthal S. Kalbhor (Secretary, PCU) - the event aimed to create a sense of home away from home for the hostel residents.
The celebration, coordinated by Dr. Anju Bala (Professor, School of Engineering) and Dr. Savita Deokar (Professor, School of Pharmacy), offered students an opportunity to connect with their heritage and traditions. The vibrant hues and cultural significance of Gudi Padwa filled the hostel with a festive spirit.
Celebrating Heritage and Traditions
The festivities commenced with the ceremonial raising of the colourful Gudi flag, a symbolic representation of victory and prosperity. Students enthusiastically participated in creating beautiful Rangolis, intricate patterns made with coloured powders, at the hostel entrance. The fragrance of freshly prepared Puran Poli, a traditional Maharashtrian sweet dish, filled the air, adding a touch of home-cooked warmth to the celebration.
The evening featured lively discussions about the legends and stories associated with Gudi Padwa, enriching the students' understanding of the festival's significance. The celebration transcended religious boundaries, creating a sense of cultural exchange and inclusivity among the hostel residents.
A Touch of Home Away from Home
This initiative by PCU resonates with the importance of cultivating a sense of community and cultural connection among its students. The Gudi Padwa celebration at the hostel served as a heart-warming gesture, ensuring students feel welcome, embraced, and connected to their heritage during their time at the university.
